Rebecca Simoni, Psy.D

Doctoral Resident located in Financial District, New York, NY & Dobbs Ferry, NY

About Dr. Simoni

Dr. Simoni specializes in the psychotherapy of adults, school-aged children, and adolescents, particularly with concerns such as anxiety, adjustment, anger management, ASD, ADHD, depression, hypomania, and learning disabilities.

She takes a holistic, highly personalized approach to treatment that integrates the mind and body, focusing on the person rather than the diagnosis. This approach empowers patients to transform into their best selves through external exercises, teaching skills, and building a rapport while addressing their issues.

Dr. Simoni's toolbox of therapeutic approaches includes Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), emotional regulation, contingency reinforcement (behavioral therapy), interpersonal therapy, mindfulness, and social skills.

Dr. Simoni is a postdoctoral fellow with a doctoral degree in School-Community Psychology from Hofstra University. During her school internship year, she worked in a special education school providing education for autistic students and those with speech and language disorders, moving on to a community internship working with college students between the ages of 16 to 60.

Dr. Simoni’s compassion and empathy are evident in her interactions both personally and professionally. Having undergone her own struggles, with both parental divorce and bullying, she is able to understand one’s day-to-day struggles. Furthermore, she learned how to thrive through her own experience in therapy, focusing on creating healthy communication behaviors and setting boundaries for herself. Additionally, she learned the importance of coping through different activities, such as exercise, which she still continues regularly. Having these experiences yielded her passion to practice psychology and to help others live more fulfilling lives.

In a therapy session, Dr. Simoni emphasizes that the client has a safe space to discuss anything that may come up without judgment. She strives to understand each individual through one’s life story and his or her family and cultural background. Additionally, she teaches skills through a cognitive behavioral therapy approach- building healthier thought patterns, better understanding one’s emotions, and creating beneficial behaviors when a stressful event occurs.
