About Dr. Lisa Botticelli, Ph.D.
Dr. Lisa Botticelli is a NYS licensed clinical psychologist. She has a holistic approach to treatment and is passionate about increasing awareness of the mind-body connection and empowering clients to make choices that serve their emotional, physical, and spiritual needs. She strives to help others show up authentically in each facet of their lives. She believes in the healing power of compassionate, feedback-informed care.
Dr. Botticelli provides individual psychotherapy to adults and adolescents and also conducts family and couple’s work. Her clinical focus is on the treatment of anxiety and mood disorders, relationship issues, and substance abuse or other addictive behaviors She also works with clients looking to examine challenges related to motivation, self-esteem, and perfectionism.
As a client-centered, integrative therapist, Dr. Botticelli’s approach draws largely from relational and humanistic therapies. She incorporates mindfulness-based practices and principles of Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Motivational Interviewing (MI), and Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT). She believes in the importance of developing a warm, genuine, and empathic space, so that the therapeutic process can be most fruitful. She aims to help patients achieve a higher level of self-understanding and continue to cultivate their strengths, while fostering self-efficacy and a sense of agency.
Background Information
Dr. Botticelli graduated summa cum laude from the University of Notre Dame. She holds an M.A. in General Psychology and Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from The New School for Social Research. She completed her pre-doctoral internship at North Central Bronx Hospital and her post-doctoral fellowship at Ilana Rosenberg, Ph.D. & Associates in Scarsdale, NY.
During her clinical training, Dr. Botticelli has worked across various levels of care, including dual diagnosis inpatient work at Mount Sinai Beth Israel, outpatient counseling at Brooklyn College Personal Counseling Center and The New School’s Counseling Center, inpatient/outpatient assessment at BronxCare Hospital System, and outpatient individual and family therapy at Mount Sinai Morningside’s Adult Outpatient Clinic and Psychiatric Recovery Center. She has extensive experience facilitating process groups as well as mindfulness and other skills-based groups.
Dr. Botticelli’s research involves explorations of the intersection between physical and emotional health and well-being, such as the impact of treatment for blood cancers on body image and sexual functioning, emotional labor experienced by egg (oocyte) donors, and gendered experiences of depression. Her doctoral dissertation explored factors contributing to mental health challenges among resident physicians.
